Another one of the great MickeyMcGuire film series currently rating up to 7. As announced there are some few movies available on different DVD compilations (this one is on Mickey's Movies and other juvenile comedies, probably in poor quality, others on Lost comedy classics, Klamottenkiste (vol 10 ?) and 4 on Mickey McGuire) but currently Classixflix restoring after Our Gang also many movies of this series. I think one is already on a bonus disc and a brief sample of another movie on YouTube (coming soon). This one is also only partial on YouTube from another collector.

I like the classics, but there are even better ones. Rating ~4-5 for this one.

 

Update 2: To Hell and Back (1955), rating 7, updates 2011-2012 posts

After having finished searching for possible books on my rating 5 and rating 6 posts (~1200 posts, I haven't found any books, but found and ordered one elsewhere, coming soon), I found this 2011 post which still had (the wrong) rating 5 and tiny pic in poor quality. I have a different pic (4:3 full screen) in the 1910s-1930 year list.

I found a stream in HD (probably from a BD) and thought that this must be at least rating 6 or 7 (although rather few scenes, mainly near the beginning, but great scenes when walking front+rear and handsome teen) and made some new caps. One more pic (rear view) in the main post. The rear view is also great. Bibs are quite tight and have a "historical" cut (rear). Next to a toddler and some men, I also found another, younger boy at 51 (pic 2, also rear view, but less of interest, set in Casablanca ?).

Then I found, that I already had an update in 2020 (on wordpress) rating 7 but still missing the pics. The A-Z rating had rating 7 (as these lists were imported from the most recent backup). So I think almost all ratings on the A-Z list should be correct (I recently had an exception, probably I just forgot to change).

As said on my previous girl's rating 5 update, there are still issues with my early, original posts here (Jan 2011- Mar 21 2012, so ~800 posts), thouse with the tiny pics, still missing update info and links and some also have a wrong rating if later changed. 

After coming back from wordpress, I decided not to overwrite these original posts with the tiny pics as the result would be that there were no pics at all for a long time (~2 years now). I have added then larger pics, first rating 7-10, now I'm currently re-uploading rating 4 posts (tagged boys). I have in total 1,021 of them and I'm currently back down to Sept 2015. So still many pics are missing. Also the later comments are not shown (I still have them).

But when doing a blog search, there are usually the most recent posts including the updates shown. When searching for a rating 7 post, I couldn't find a post having a wrong lower rating. There are some few notable rating 5 and 6 posts that I will update soon. And rating 4 as well as said on the re-uploads. I don't assume a rating 3 (or 4) post on which I later changed the rating to 7 or up. So there are few (notable) posts affected, maybe I just forgot to check/upload the rating 7 update or I thought the year list is enough.

Update 2: Start Here! Adventures into Science

 

This is one of the few (missing) rating 5 girls re-upload. I don't remember if I had re-uploads of females up to rating 6 or 5. I currently re-uploading rating 4 posts (tagged boys). I have in total 1,021 of them and I'm currently back down to Sept 2015. So still many pics are missing.

My early, original posts here (Jan 2011- Mar 21 2012, so ~800 posts), thouse with the tiny pics still missing update info and links and some also have a wrong rating if later changed.

I have searched the web for possible new vids (or pics), there are still only 3 clips. I first wondered, why my pic (which is the only one to be found on Google Images) has a much better quality than the clips, but then I recalled, that a fellow reader had sent me the pics (also see the comments).

I had an update with these pics and info in 2016 (originally on wordpress) but haven't re-uploaded them here after migration. Original post from 2011. As the series is rare, I think it's worth re-uploading these pics. Girl, first assumed to be ~10 yo, should be ~12 or 13.

Also good Soccer and American Football scenes (s1e2) and swimwear. I haven't checked all episodes.

Interesting, but I prefer blue bibs. For now rating ~4-5. Another nice vintage British series.

As announced in Getting Hitched, another movie starring the McDougall (Alley) Kids. This time, the movie is available on YouTube. Image quality is quite poor but typical for its age, almost 100 years. Unfortunately it's very short. But quite good scenes. I like the classics.

Picket Fences - s4e16 - f/m (final update)

 

I have now watched the complete series. A brief scene of Zach in faded bibs. Also a teen girl sitting in dark blue bibs (very good but brief scene). And some good scenes of boys playing Basketball in purple shiny shorts (including Zach) and other team in light green, and I think in dark blue (also sitting).

I forgot that there was also a man in bibs in s4e14. No scenes in later episodes.

In total more scenes than first assumed, including some ladies, but rather few good scenes, mainly in seasons 3+4. Great series with weird plots though, especially Justin Shenkarow.

Update: Bernard’s Watch

Searching for the girl in Woof! (I also re-uploaded her, not in bibs and a boy, currently rating 5), I found a British channel on YouTube with some quite new uploads. Pic 1, orange shortalls from ep Plenty of Time (1998, season 2), pic 2 from ep Time to go home (1999, season 3, blue shortalls), I used to have a similar pic (but from a distance).  

Also other quite good scenes like boys in shiny swim shorts (brief scene) in ep Swim Time, and also boys playing Soccer including the main character in white shorts in several episodes. I have briefly checked all new uploads, but it's only a fraction available of the 79 episodes of 7 seasons. Rather few scenes. I found inofficial DVD offers.

Play Away - s8e13

Another, better pic of a lady, this time not in dark pink but faded blue bibs. Not sure if this is Julie Stevens as well (seems to have different, shorter not curly hair). This episode is from 1979.

Update 2: Hiroshima Maiden, The River (1984) rating 6

Another rating 4 re-upload showing Chris Masterson (Francis in "Malcolm in the Middle"). I previously also had a side view (in white shirt, without cap) and another pic which is almost the same as pictured. No need for uploading more. Was also on my bedroom blog (other pic, sharing with older brother). Maybe this pair is hickory striped, the other pair appears plain blue.

Book 125: Wittliff/Clark: Raggedy Man

I have checked all my 569 rating 6 posts for finding books to buy. It wasn't that many posts, as many posts are modern series and updates, mainly without pics (the best pics are now in the main entries). I could also have used combined tags (rating 6+farm, or rating 6+boys) but this way, I also could find (and found) posts and pics that needs to be rechecked and replaced.

The only notable book, existing and worth buying is Raggedy Man (starring Henry Thomas "E.T." and a younger boy). There's a snippet view on Google books with 7 mentionings (not all are shown, I had a bit more luck with a spelling error). Descriptions seem quite interesting (barefoot, having peeled off his overalls... stood in his jockey shorts...). Today, other results are shown in the classic view, and empty snippets on new Google Books. I also like the actors and setting.

The problem is, that this 1979 book is currently not available/too expensive outside the US. So I have started to check the rating 5 posts.

Similar like the Our Gang series. Also starring Leon Holmes (Buster's Mix Up, rating 5) but not in bibs here (background on right).

The movie, copyright renewed in 1953 or 1954 should be in the Public Domain now (at least in the US). But I haven't found a clip. Not even the length is known. But it's a two-reeler. So ~20 minutes. Most of the other movies are also rare, but not all have bibs scenes. Some few films (next to some other Our Gang and Mickey McGuire films are on the 2007 DVD: Kid Gangs And Juvenile Stars (by Looser Than Loose Masthead). (But in "home movie print", so probably very poor 8mm quality but obviously defunct and OOP anyway.

There's a girl in bibs (Nanette Fabray) in Fowl Play (1928), 2 boys incl. chubby Tommy Hicks in Big Pie Raid (1927) coming soon and at least 2 other movies and also at least 2 men in bibs. Some few pics are on IMDb, obviously from a collector.

Rating ~4 for now.

During research, I also found a 1954 b&w movie (and song) of the same title starring Peter Alexander and Leila Negra by coincidence both in simple dark bibs (coming later, rating ~2).

I don't like Matt Dillon. Looking much older. And very few scenes. 2 different endings funny and sad.

So rating ~2-3 only.

 

Update 4: Mystic Nights and Pirate Fights, rating 6->7

 

Another urgent post#2, 2/2. I found this complete movie via Google on a streaming site (not YouTube). Looks Arabian (dubbed, unknown languge). The image quality is quite good, I think from a digital source, probably VCD or LaserDisc, so a bit less than DVD quality. On fast movements there are some display errors/ interlace artifacts/ghosting. I sometimes had this when playing/converting NTSC DVDs on PAL DVD players.  

The colors are a bit dark and not very sharp. I have adjusted the aspect ratio.

There are much more scenes than remembered. He always wore bibs and is very often shown, but almost always with an open jacket (so very few good rear views). One rather brief scene at home without jacket in the middle. There's a little loop or logo tag/flap at the bottom. (See story 37 pink bibs and a pig tail). I've added some more movies with that.

Some few sitting scenes (incl. lap close-up). There's also a man sitting in tan bibs near the beginning.

I already had some good pics, showing full length and rubber boots, so I've uploaded some other pics. Pics 1+3 without jacket and cap. Bib position is very high, till the neck. Straps are black, maybe hunting bibs (duck hunt). Pic 2 near the end a good scene lying on his back.

First rated 4, then 6, now at least 7. 

I still would buy a DVD. The image quality of a VCD is not good enough. And missing English or German audio. But at least the complete movie.

United States of Al - season 2

Another 2 urgent posts. Next to the girl Hazel, rating 2-(3) there are also some ladies in bibs. Yesterday, s2e9 has been aired, there's a lady at the beginning but with an open shirt. I haven't found any clips and don't remember who (maybe the same as pictured ?).

On s2e12 there's at least a young black lady in bibs (can be found on a sneak peek clip on YouTube.)

The scene pictured is from an unknown episode (maybe season 2) I found on a general announcement clip.

I never liked this series. So still rating ~2-3. Rather few good scenes. But it's possible that I miss scenes. Season 3 had been canceled. Season 2 is currently being aired on German's Pro7 (after new episodes of Young Sheldon (no new bibs scenes there)).

Update: Maysville (2021) rating 6->7

 

The 2nd urgent post is this update. Searching for books (movies rating 6), I soon found this post from Dec 2021 (I think there's no novel). Today, I found the full movie on YouTube. Many good scenes, mainly at the first 15 minutes. Including walking rear view and sitting on the grass at 12. Kneeing, close-op scene at 5. There's also a brief scene of an old man (distance).

After swimming of the two teen boys (in beige long johns) one boy sitting, dressing into his bibs, also standing. Straps are buttoned (no braces). Side buttons open.

Much later, at 48 there's another scenes of a hurt boy (looks like same actor but in braced bibs what is obviously a continuity error). 2 brief scenes. Pics 3+4

I first considered rating 8. But first, I don't like much this actor. And there are not enough scenes. I hope, I haven't missed a scene. Brand is Dickies.

Update: Neues vom Süderhof - season 4

 

Searching for books (also see previous post about Wish You Well, f/m rating 7) and checking all movies rated 7-10, I found again this one (this series f/m is rating 8). I previously hadn't re-uploaded these 2 pics (pic 1 from s4e10 showing Patrick on left (also cycling) and Ben in shortalls. Pic 2 is my favourite episode from s4e11 (Patrick kneeing). There are also very good scenes of teen girls (in this and other episodes).

I almost considered buying a book, but I'm sure, that I already bought book #38 Ben macht Karriere (confirmed in update 4), which I think is about s4e11. Obviously no descriptions of bibs in the book and I think I don't own it anymore (or I can't find it).

There are no book previews of these German 90s books on Google books nor Amazon. I don't know the other books. These books are mainly aimed at girls (horse books). As announced, this seried is finally available on DVD. There are audiobooks of early seasons (not containing Patrick and have another actor as Ben).

Book 123: Baldacci: Wish You Well

Again searching for some new books, I have checked all my posts rated 7-10. Some books don't exist, others don't have any mentionings of overalls, so I already have almost all notable books. There are some few TV series with book series (like Neues vom Süderhof, rating 8, see upcoming post or Schloss Einstein) of which I don't have all books. So I now have to check posts rated 6.

The only notable book left was this, movie rating 7. Two boys and one girl in bibs.

There's a preview on Google Books showing 15 occurrences. Including barefoot scenes but also men. The plot is quite good, and I even bought the BD. However few descriptions of the girl in bibs, and the youngest brother is just 7 and the other not that handsome.

The German translation has 9 occurrences and uses (like Christy) the term overall (what means coveralls in German). So for now, I think I won't buy it.

Trimble also appeared as such in all or most of the Busters movie series (~49 episodes ?). In 1924 he also appeared in bibs in Speed Boys. (Rating 3).

I have to check more movie with Leon Holmes. I also found other boys in his movies.

Rating 5-6 (originally I thought of 6-7). Rather few good scenes, later he wore other clothes. I haven't found a DVD release. Film found on YouTube.

A Waltons Thanksgiving

Books 122: The Waltons

I was searching for some more books and checking my highest rated posts. I first thought that there's mainly one book by Earl Hamner Jr. Spencer's Mountain. I bought the German abridged Reader's Digest version many years ago. Not bad and have some good illustrations (also showing bibs). There are also some memoirs of one or two of the actors. Books and also now a YouTube series by Judy Norton, behind the scenes with other actors but few new scenes. I also found a new Waltons movie, coming next.

By coincidence I found some more Waltons book. There are 3 book novelisations from Bantam (The Reunion and The Love Story, The Typewriter and the Separation, An Easter Story). And 2 or 3 picture books, sticker and paper doll books.

But most of interest is the 6 part 1975 book series by Whitman. Most books are about one character. The Bird Dog is about Jim-Bob with a nice cover by Maxine McCaffrey. Showing Jim-Bob more blond and handsome. The books are quite rare and I only have seen some few pages. Probably no illustrations but some overalls mentionings (at least about Mary-Ellen).

The Puzzle is about Jason, The Accident about The Waltons, The Penny Sale about Mary-Ellen, Up She Rises about Erin, The Treasures I think about The Waltons. Nice covers showing several actors in bibs. Later I bought Goodnight John-Boy

Picket Fences - s4e14 - f/m

I already had a pic in the first update in 2018 (also showing Jeremy Lelliott), but I recently have rechecked the complete episode (and now almost the full series). At school Zach is mainly shown partially (headhots) and he has a sweater bound over his hips (rear view). At around 12 minutes at home good full views (front and rear, but rear behind the banister).

Also a teen girl, I haven't noticed before, in dark brown bibs. At the beginning and at ~7 minutes walking on the school corridor behind Zach, but briefly and partially close up. Zach turned 13 one episode later (but looking like 9 or 10). The girl is so 13 or 14 as well but looking older.

The plot is also very good, about the web and young Zach dealing at school with risque diskettes. Nice faded bibs and dark shirt. Also a man in bibs.

Our Gang new restored BD release - incl. The Big Show (1923)

Finally there's a new Little Rascal Complete Centennial release (6 or 7 BD and 8 DVD, region A/1) since November 2022. The result is indeed breath taking. Pics on top from my favourite film The Big Show. The new comparison showing from left the scene from the best web clip, pic 2 from the previous best version (taken from my Grapevine DVD), pic 3 from the new release (cropped from the trailer). The bibs are hickory striped and very sharp. Audio is also enhanced but I think has a new score.

Almost the complete scene of this audience boys is on YouTube (official publisher). One brief scene is missing when they standing up and leave (rear view). I first thought, no need for buying this. But then I thought, I should buy this for the other movies. Original price was 150 $, then 100, some selling it for 65, but with shipping and customs is about 100. And region A. The DVD set is a bit cheaper.

But it's not a complete set. Only the talkies (which were most or all previously released restored and just 3 restored silent films incl. this. It's on a bonus disc which is also available separately (currently sold out) next to some other extras. 

Another silent film set will be released in 2023 (as yet unknown if complete). There are also several earlier "complete" or similar releases but not complete either and in lower quality. This one is from ClassixFlix.

Pic below is from the main trailer with an older boy rear view. An early talkie, probably Spanky (1932).

I wonder how they got this brilliant result and getting details like the stripes. I think you mainly need a good 35 mm copy. Probably most other releases are from 16 or even 8mm.

They also will release restored movies of the Mickey McGuire series (rating 7 as well). There are now few episodes available on 2 DVD sets and several compilations. But most of them are available online.

Somehow I found this posts in the stats, but I don't remember why (just 117 views in total). There were no pics left in the main entry (just a clip). I have one pic showing both young boys in the posts of the pilot (Brian G. Wilson pic 1 in hickory stripes and Jermain H. Johnson), the black boy wore regular, faded medium blue bibs. Pic 2 obviously show Michael J. Fox.

So I have re-uploaded these 2 pics in the main entry. Pic 2 probably (also) was on my pigtails blog.

I still haven't seen all episodes. Also good sitting scenes (at least publicity pics). There are also men in bibs (one is obviously just an apron, but others seem like bibs).

Could also be the same actress.

The faded bibs are nice, but rather few good scenes. The orange bibs would also be interesting if more scenes. I only have checked this briefly, so I might have missed scenes.
