Step by Step (1991)

ABC sitcom starring Patrick Duffy & Brandon Call, 160 ep in 7 seasons
-Year: 1991-1998
-Year in film: 1990s
-Country: USA
-Who in bibs: Dana ~16, Brendan ~7, Alicia 11. others
-Available on DVD: no, 6 ep only
-I own: no, partly TV recordings
-Bib occurrence: medium ?
-Rating:  6/10
-Rating: ******
-Comment: Staci Keanan (pic left on right in blue shortalls), and I think Josh Byrne (right on right as Brenden) in blue bibs. Also others in bibs in this trailer at least one guy in white bibs. Picture left from intro Season 1 (and maybe also 2), image right ep 2.4 /ep 26 J.T.'s World. I think this is a very good TV series. I have to watch my old VHS recordings and I think I have few episodes of early seasons. Also bibs at least in ep 4.10 i think also Keanan but rather brunette hair. I assume medium or fewer bib scenes but have to check. I then liked Brandon Call but don't expect him in bibs. Very good and funny family sitcom, but in the (early) 90s I prefer Growing Pains and Home Improvement.

Edit I found on a publicity shot that also Christine Lakin is pictured in blue bibs. But not sure if in this series.

Books 4: Eunice Boeve: The Summer of the Crow

I wanted to by a bib novel (last one I bought was 9 months ago) and so I searched online book stores and book social networks about the keyword farm /farming and children's books. I found the "Summer of the Crow", the cover depicting a drawing with 2 shirtless boys in bibs. To make sure that the text is also about bibs (which is not always the case) I used an online text search within the book. This is possible for many books on Google Books website or some online shops, however this is limited as there are not all pages available.

This book is about a 13 year old boy Brady who lived on a farm near Kansas in 1935 during a drought.

Right at the beginning there is a funny scene, where the boy undressed his bibs and his mother found cut-off prairie dog tails in the pockets of the bibs. They pay for the tails because of the drought. The boy has a little sister and the other boy on the cover right is a poor friend with the crow.

The book is limited available. New condition only at the biggest online shop or directly from the author. Published 2001.

After 1 1/2 month I finally have finished it. Many bib scenes, about one every 10 pages (of 218), mostly short events like lightning a match at bibs, wiping hands at them or being grapped at the suspenders. In one scene his friends is lying on bed in bibs, because he was too poor to have undershorts, so Brady borrowed him one pair. (I wonder why Brady is wearing some in hot 1930s).

I don't have much bib novels, but although these many scenes here I don't really like this book. Perhaps I was too sleepy while reading it, but I missed the farm and drought atmosphere at most parts. Additionally there is no happy end.

I am now reading Honkytonk Man (see film entry) and then Papa Was a Preacher, which are my favourite films. Perhaps I will later read more childrens' books with illustrations.

Bushwhacked (1995)

Kids Scout adventure comedy film starring Daniel Stern -Year: 1995 -Year in film: 1990s  -Country: USA -Who in bibs: girl Kelsey ~12 -Available on DVD: yes -I own: no, partly TV recording -Bib occurence: often -Rating:  6/10  -Rating: ****** -Comment: Janna Michaels (pictured, left and on left on right image) in blue bibs (partly under her scout uniform). I wonder if this is allowed to wear bibs and scout uniform together. Sometime with pigtails (sometimes with cap) and also wet bibs (left image). I have seen this complete film some time ago and this is a good and very funny family film (but rated PG-13). Bib scenes could be better as they are often hidden under the uniform but I like this film and want to see it again soon. I think blue scout uniform means cub scouts (7-11 years) but child actors are ~11-14 ys. Film aka Tenderfoots, The Tenderfoot. https://biboverallsfilms.blogspot.com/2019/01/update-bushwhacked-1995.html

Héroes (2010)

Teen film set in the early 80s
-Year: 2010
-Year in film: 1980s
-Country: Spain
-Who in bibs: girl Christo 13
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Bib occurrence: medium ?
-Rating:  6/10
-Rating: ******
-Comment: Mireia Vilapuig (I think), pictured in blue and light green shortalls. Also cycling and on a pedal boat in both blue bibs. Finally a new and good non-USA (Spanish) bib/shortalls movie. Film with 4 boys and this girl and music of the 80s. Looks good but I don't have seen this complete movie yet. Director : Pau Freixas. I usually don't like Spanish movies and don't know of any other Spanish film with bib scenes, but this could be an exception. I have to watch this film, but it's not urgent. I assume medium or few bib scenes.

Chestnut: Hero of Central Park

Family film with orphan girls and a dog
-Year: 2004
-Year in film: 2000s ?
-Country: USA
-Who in bibs: girl Ray ~8
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no, partly TV recording
-Bib occurrence: low
-Rating:  3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: Abigail Breslin (first in film "Signs", see that entry but she is not in bibs there) pictured in light blue bibs (full length). If I see this correctly in the trailer she is wearing those bibs shirtless while in a bathtub with a big dog. This is a funny family entertainment film. I don't know or don't remember this film. I also don't like such very young girls, but perhaps someone else does. She even looks younger that 8 years in this film, maybe produced earlier. Also starring Mackenzie Vega, but I don't know of any other actors in bibs than Breslin. I assume few bib scenes.
Update: I have seen most parts of this film now and couldn't notice any bib scenes. Good and funny film for (young) kids (or girls), but for bib scens only rating 3 (was 4). But I still have to check this complete film again the next broadcasting.

Update 2: Now I have seen the beginning. Very few and quite bad scenes only there. I think only with a jacket. But I like the dark rubber boots with the bibs. I think the bathtub scene is with a dress and not in bibs. She's very young. Quite good and funny plot.

Rating 2-3.

My Brother Talks to Horses

B/w farm film. Director: Fred Zinnemann, novel by Morton Thompson
-Year: 1947
-Year in film: 1940s
-Country: USA
-Who in bibs: boy Lewie ~9 ys
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Bib occurence: low
-Rating:  4/10
-Rating: ****
-Comment: Jackie "Butch" Jenkins (died 2001) in dark bibs (pictured). I don't know this complete film and just flipped through some parts. I could only discover one short scene inside the barn and before that outside feeding chicken and sitting down talking to his mother. Bibs are heavy worn, one suspender is down or defective. Famous sympathic child star with freckles and a buck tooth. At least good historic and authentic farm setting. I don't know if the bibs are of real (blue) jeans fabric. I can only rate 4-5 for now, and as of few bib scenes 4 for this film. But I have to watch this whole movie. MGM film is not yet in Public Domain. Novel is called "Joe, The Wounded Tennis Player" (1945). Film produced 1946 aka "My Brother Who Talks to Horses" and "Louie, My Brother Talked to Horses".

Another good color movie starring Jenkins is the musical Summer Holiday (1948)

Angel in Training

Family film about a girl with supernatural powers
-Year: 1999
-Year in film: 1990s
-Country: USA
-Who in bibs: girl R.J. 14
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Bib occurence: medium ?
-Rating:  5/10
-Rating: *****
-Comment: Danielle Pessis (pictured) in medium blue bibs. Typical 90s film for girls and with girls. I'm not sure if I have seen this movie, but I assume medium or even more bib scenes. Perhaps also others in bibs? I have to check this out. I don't like those films, but might be funny entertainment and bibs are not looking bad on that girl. So rating 5 for now. She helps a 12 year old girl in this film. I think there are also other films and series with similar plot. Reminds me also to the series "The Secret World of Alex Mack" (see that entry).

Eve's Bayou

Drama starring Samuel L. Jackson
-Year: 1997
-Year in film: 1962
-Country: USA
-Who in bibs: girl Eve 11 ys
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Bib occurence: low ?
-Rating:  4/10
-Rating: ****
-Comment: Jurnee Smolott (pictured) in dark blue bibs. (Also another scene in the trailer). Film rated R restricted and won several awards, also for Smolott . I don't know this complete film. Set in Louisiana of the 1960s with black actors. I assume few bib scenes like in the trailer as she also wear dresses. I don't think that I will like this film, but have to check out. The film seems to be a bit scaring. I'm not sure if this bibs are raw denim, they appear in different brightness on different pics but I don't think raw denim.

Info 40: more historic images, girls, NCLC

FSA 8c01203, NCLC 00554, FSA 8c02486, 8b15320
I searched another 10.000s of FSA images and also found girls, women and even shortalls and also smiling people. I now have checked 85.000 images (thats half of FSA). I've also started a NCLC album (National Child Labour Collection) and there are also farm work and many girls, (but I don't know if in bibs). There are so many bib images so I can only upload the very best. But I'm listing other image numbers, so someone can search on loc.gov. I also won't  do other posts here unless I'm finished or find extremely good images. You can always check my picasa albums. See also previous info posts.

The Thirteenth Year

TV movie about a teen mermaid boy, starring Chez Starbuck
-Year: 1999
-Year in film: 1990s
-Country: USA
-Who in bibs: several teen girls and another girl, ~11-15
-Available on DVD: VHS only?
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Bib occurrence: low
-Rating:  6/10
-Rating: ******
-Comment: A young girl in medium blue bibs (image right), at least 2 teen girls in bibs (left, I'm not sure but probably not shortalls) and one teen girl in light blue shortalls (image at bottom). I don't know all names of actresses. I think one is Courtnee Draper who played his girl friend Sam (left image, maybe the left girl). I have a complete TV recording but had not yet the time for watching this at normal speed. This is a very good film also showing swimming scenes of both boys (speedos) and girls. I also like the plot and acting of Chez Starbuck (image right in the middle right) who turned more and more a male mermaid. Obviously a Disney movie (see cover) but this is not mentioned on IMDb or only shown on Disney Channel?

Perfect Harmony (1991)

Disney film about a black and a white boy and music, starring David Faustino
-Year: 1991
-Year in film: 1959
-Country: USA
-Who in bibs: boy Landy 16 ys
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Bib occurence: medium ?
-Rating:  4/10
-Rating: ****
-Comment: Eugene Byrd in dark blue bibs (pictured) as orphan Landy. Young Artist Award for him who later also starred in many other films and series. Also starring David Faustino (Married with Children) as Paul. I don't know this complete film and so can only rate 4 for now. I don't know of others in bibs but assume at least medium bib occurence. I have to watch this movie and check this out. Classical music by Handel, Haydn, Mozart and Franz Schubert. Bibs are very dark on the cover but I'm not sure if they are really raw denim but looks like. Perhaps also farm content (or mainly scenes at the preparatory school) but no better trailers on YouTube. Probably a good and touching family movie as usual from Disney.

Book 3: Jim Heynen - The One-Room Schoolhouse

I bought this book some time ago and this is a good collection of short stories of a gang of mean neighboring farm boys of different age.

I don't know if this is all autobiographical, Heynen was born in 1940 and he described in one story that electricity comes to a farm.

There are a few bib scenes mentioned (I count 4) but it is clear, that the boys wearing bibs all days except on sunday (but not barefeet).
I usually don't like short stories (you have to read between the lines and imagine even more than with novels), but they can be put together and describe well the rural and historical farm living, including watching and imitating dehorning, chopping off heads of chickens by the boys, using corn cobs as toilet paper animal torture and a frozen tongue on metal.

This would be great stories for making a movie. I have to read other books from him.

I have the German translation and later found snippets of the English one. I also found another book in which overalls legs make sounds when walking. And of course I have more books and movie with one-room schoolhouses.

Info 39: Update: Some Things That Stay

I bought this DVD now and updated this entry.
This is a good 1950s farm and coming-of-age film starring Kevin Zegers and Katie Boland (pictured) with both boys and girls in bibs.
She is dressing on bibs from a young man who died and she tries to hide herself in bibs first behind the pillar. Also kissing and skinny dipping scenes. Full review on its entry:

Sally Marshall Is Not an Alien

Family/Sci-Fi film starring Natalie Vansier
-Year: 1999
-Year in film: 1990s
-Country: Australia, Canada
-Who in bibs: girl Sally ~13 , other girl ~12
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Bib occurence: medium ?
-Rating:  6/10
-Rating: ******
-Comment: Natalie Vansier (pictured, in the middle in white bibs (or very light blue) and at least one other girl in shortalls on the left. Is this Helen Neville? I think so, she is also on the DVD cover. Both bibs seems to be a bit baggy. Novel by Amanda McKay. I found this film by coincidence as I search for "Dancing on the Moon" (see that entry, starring Natalie Vansier in shortalls). I don't know this complete movie yet, but might be a good girls' film. I assume medium bib scenes, so rating 6 for now.

Flipper (1996)

Flipper movie starring Elijah Wood and Paul Hogan
-Year: 1996
-Year in film: 1990s
-Country: USA
-Who in bibs: girl (Kim?) ~14 , girl 7, 15
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: yes, partly TV recording
-Bib occurrence: low
-Rating:  4/10
-Rating: ****
-Comment: A teen girl in light blue shortalls (pictured, might be Jessica Wesson ?) Also later in light blue hickory striped shortalls. And a different teen girl in blue full length bibs (very short scene, pic right) and a young girl in dark blue shortalls when kids had to pay to see Flipper. Alltogether few bib scenes. Also starring grown up Luke Halpin. I don't like this Flipper remake although I like Elijah Wood. I also don't like the original movies, only the classic series of the 60s. Same problem with Lassie films and series. This film is too modern. Why not set in the 60s again? However good entertaining film and at least some bib/shortalls. Rating PG. (I have now seen this film, but maybe missed some few parts, as it was very boring).

Adding tags sitting F, teen girls. Link to Flipper (1995)

Info 37: another historic girls in bibs

I found another images from FSA by coincidence (unedited)

First two: Children of migratory carrot pullers, Mexicans. Imperial Valley, California. 8b31731. Dorothea Lange. 3rd is "Eighteen year-old mother from Oklahoma, now a California migrant" 8b31802. I'm not sure, if they are bibs. And I wonder who the guy on the left is. There are also at least 3 more images of this woman.

Info 36: blog search gadget doesn't work properly

Yesterday I encountered problems using the internal search gadget when I wanted to edit older posts. Many posts cannot be found. Only 8 pages (maybe 40 posts results) are displayed, showing often unrelated or all posts (maybe because all posts have the complete A-Z listing with all titles in it). Today I read at blogger help that other bloggers have the same problem (at least since 2009), but others work fine. Search with a word which is not part of the title (eg actor) seems to work.

Another problem is, that a google image search also finds many unrelated images. (Perhaps same problem with A-Z list or because images have no caption titles.)

I try to fix this (changing the A-Z list, using another search option etc.) I also want to link each title in the A-Z list to directly access it. This must be possible, but might need external gadgets or manual HTML programming.

If you search for a film, try searching for the tag (label) with the rating # which is after the title in the A-Z list and click on that tag (eg Rating 5) and then flip through the pages.
Or use an advanced google text search on google with search limited on this blog website only.

Edit: I've read that this is all complicated. Might come from manually editing old posts. It could be solved by manually correcting all posts. Same with a link list. I tried 3 different search boxes and none worked. Now I have added a google search on the very top of the blog page. Now I transfer the A-Z list to a seperate post and have to wait for some days if google (image) search will have better results.

Dancing on the Moon (1997)

Girl coming-of-age film
-Year: 1997
-Year in film: 1990s

-Who in bibs: girl Maddy 13
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no, partly TV recording
-Bib occurrence: medium ?
-Rating:  6/10
-Rating: ******
-Comment: Natalie Vansier (pictured) in light blue shortalls, also cycling in them. Another awarded Contes pour tous/ Tales for all (#16) film, see also Tirelire Combines & Cie. Produced by Rock Demers, directed by Kit Hood, novel by Jacqui Manni-Albert. I have seen this movie many years ago, but then I don't like it (typical girls' film with problems). But shortalls looking good and I remember also some interesting scenes. Also starring Elisha Cuthbert (without bibs?). I want to see the whole movie again and hope for a soon broadcasting on TV. No trailers on YouTube, except for a small Contes pour tous trailer. Vansier also starred in Lassie (1997), see that entry and Sally Marshall Is Not an Alien (will be next entry).

Info 34: historic fake girls + boys in dresses

You prefer girls and are not happy with the many boys images? Then I have a solution: photo editing. Some results are funny, some looks realistic. Crossdressing. All images are believed to be Public Domain from FSA (see post info 32). I searched at loc.gov for girls, image # are: 8a03619, 8c26858, 8b37694, 8b37692, 8a29159 and using Gimp. Image 2 is 8a26532. The Adventures of Ociee Nash

Farm film, novel by Milam McGraw Propst
-Year: 2003
-Year in film: 1898
-Country: USA
-Who in bibs: girl Ociee 9
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Bib occurrence: low ?
-Rating:  6/10
-Rating: ******
-Comment: Skyler Day (pictured) in blue bibs (I think full length), later also in a dress, so I assume few or medium bib scenes. Looks like shirtless but might be a undershirt underneath as seen on some images. I don't know this complete film but looks interesting (rural Mississippi of the 1890s (like Tom Sawyer), novel is called "A Flower Blooms on Charlotte Street). I don't know of any other actors in bibs. Several boys in pants with suspenders, also shirtless. I have to watch this movie and rate 6 for now, but don't think that I can rate higher for bib scenes.

Land of the Lost (1991)

Dino TV series (remake from 70s), 26 ep in 2 seasons
-Year: 1991-1992
-Year in film: 1970s??
-Country: USA
-Who in bibs: girl Annie 11 ys
-Available on DVD: no, season 1 on VHS
-I own: no
-Bib occurence: medium?
-Rating:  5/10
-Rating: *****
-Comment: Jenny Drugan (pictured) in light blue shortalls with a belt and glasses. Image left ep. 19 (season 2), image right ep 5 (season 1). I don't know complete episodes of either this Nickelodeon nor the classic series. There is also a film in 2009. I assume medium or few bib scenes. And series are good and funny entertainment. In the original series (1974-1976, 43 episodes) there is a blond girl (Kathy Coleman as Holly) but I don't know of any bib scenes there, but have to check that. I don't know exact year in this series (past of the 70s as original, 80s or early 90s? but time travel anyway), looks quite oldfashioned with the belt and the glasses, I even first thought that this is the series of the 70s.

Do Not Disturb (1999)

Thriller by Dick Maas

-Country: The Netherlands, Germany
-Who in bibs: girl Melissa ~10
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Bib occurence: medium ?
-Rating:  5/10

-Comment: A girl in beige bibs (looks a bit baggy), I think this must be Francesca Brown. But looks older to me. I don't know this film and I don't like thrillers and non blue bibs. Perhaps this film is very exciting, maybe too exciting, but for bib scenes I can only rate 4 for now for what I've seen on pics and trailers. Film rated R restricted. Also starring William Hurt and Jennifer Tilly. Filmed in Amsterdam.

Previously rated 4, now 5-(6). Rather few, but good scenes near the beginning. Quite thin fabric. Luckily the jacket is open. Nice walking scenes including walking downstairs.

-Comment: Delphine Piperni (pictured) in light blue shortalls. A bit baggy and I think she also was cycling in them. Also a young girl ~ 5ys in orange skirtalls. Much cycling also another blond girl in jeans shorts. Film aka "The Clean Machine" and "Contes pour tous #13" (Tales for All, series, like The Peanut Butter Solution, Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveller, The Dog Who Stopped the War (La guerre des tuques), etc). I  like this film and especially young Maxime Collin in short spiked hair here. I saw this film many years ago and have a bad quality recording but have no time to watch this completely. I assume medium to few bib scenes. But they are very good, sitting and backside view). Also good and funny scenes with the boys. The 2 clips on YouTube are without bibs. I also couldn't find any trailer webwide. I hope this will be aired on TV in he next time. But I even rate 7 for now. See also "Dancing on the Moon (1997)".
