Info 430: Second Life - The Sims communities

The idea is very interesting. Someone can do everything that he or she imagines (maybe within some limits online) or create many things including fan fiction or other stories offline. Probably there are already some interesting avatars (like this boy in shortalls, see link) and locations like shops, farms (historical setting ?), schools, but I haven't tried it yet.

Some picture stories, I think from The Sims, were also helpful for my bedroom blog (when I don't know the exact room constellation for a TV series with many actors), I found some fan creations.

The main problem is, that the graphics are still not realistic enough. Maybe in 10 or 15 years we have a holographic, 3D, virtual reality quality.

The other problem is copyrights, if someone wants to publish it or use on a blog. Most meshes and textures are for sale or reused, so better make them yourself using free building software and free textures. Same for names, characters, locations and other details (of movies).

I haven't found free overalls by a brief search, so I use this pic called Rural Princess from wikimedia/flickr user Tiff/Thost Resident (CC-By-SA 2.0 license), though not sure if everything is really under a free license. But it's just a pic and not the complete, usable avatar. The Sims are probably not free at all.

I wish I had more time. But this is a movies blog anyway. If someone knows some interesting (descent) avatars or else, please comment (though I might not publish everything).

I don't know the complete movie (30 minutes). I assume rather few scenes as she later wore ballett clothes.

In this "Dream Big" series for preschoolers (3-8 yo) starring Steve Bernie as Wishing Well Willie there are 4 different VHS. 2 with girls, 2 with boys. One very good video with a handsome, but young blond boy in jeans is "I Wish I Were a Cowboy" (on my western blog rating 6). The other one with girls is about ... a cheerleader.

I haven't seen the complete movie yet, just a trailer and another clip. Pic 1 is from the trailer, the colorized pic from a lobby card.

I like classics, but he's still too young here and looking even younger (same for the black boy). Maybe it was filmed earlier and he's 8 or 7, he looks similar on the 1940 movie.

I have to recheck it later. Available on DVD as movie on demand. 88 minutes what is quite long for these days. Maybe a typical runaway plot.

Nothing special. Rather few good scenes. I think no scenes in the 2nd half. (I have to recheck my recording). Probably no need for more pics.

Rating 2-3 only. Today also another episode of "Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction" has been aired (pregnant young lady in shortalls, coming soon).

I think it's not a good idea to add jeans dresses. Probably also a brief scene, so rating 2 only. Mabye the Lederhosen are more of interest.

After finding the Pierino movies I also found this and other erotic comedy movies (70s and 80s). Quite good and funny for it's time. But I don't like the 70s and rather few and few young actors in bibs (and if so than with flared legs).

Book 53: W. O. Mitchell: Who Has Seen the Wind

I have finally completed this famous Canadian novel about a prairie childhood. I've got the longer edition from McClelland & Stewart 330 pages but no illustrations. The hayloft cover art is a painting from William Kurelek taken from the 1976 illustrated edition. The pic is from the 1977 movie (rating 8).

There are rather few mentionings of bibs and the main character (Brian Sean) is very young except at the end. 4 yo at the beginning, 6 yo at page 31, 7 at p. 162, almost 11 at p. 199 and almost 15 at p. 291.

One good line at page 17 that his mother likes to see a kid in bibs. I hoped to read much more like that.

P. 18 he doesn't want to wear a potato sack

p.19 seen wearing overhawls

p. 31 another 6yo in overall pants + sleeveless shirt

p. 138 (6yo) his bare bottom can be seen through a tear of his faded bibs (barefoot).

The novel is not bad but the movie is much better. I still don't own the expensive DVD. The movie is still on YouTube but in quite bad quality (see the updated movie entry).

Interesting movie and good dusty setting. Some scenes and actors reminds me of my missing Italian movie. English title: The Devil's Backbone.

Most boys wearing short or knickers. Also good dorm scenes.

As usual I have checked it at high speed. I noticed few and brief scenes only.

So rating 3-4 for the shortalls, around rating 6 for the movie.

Completetly on YouTube and available on DVD (Scary Stories Collection) but I only have checked it briefly. I don't like curly hair and first thought it might be a girl then a boy then again a girl. There's also a boy with blond curly hair.

Not to be confused with the US Martin Sheen thriller (same title). Novel by John Hoyland and starring Michael Carter.

Interesting setting (Derbyshire village) and ghost plot, several bibs scenes but few good ones.

Would be maybe rating 6 as a boy, but I think now rating 4-5. I also don't like the simple rear straps.
