Update: Huck & the King of Hearts - rating 8

I have completely re-watched all bibs scenes and made some more pics. I think these are the most baggy bibs of a boy, I've seen in a movie. I like this, cool show-off. And even cycling scenes. Raw denim would be better. Even the coveralls (pic 3 at 52 min) are baggy (or just oversized, man's size). Also lying with these on his rear under a car at 54 min. And 2 scenes lying in bibs on a bed but poor views.

Somehow it was hard to find good scenes to upload, I wanted to show that the bibs are that baggy and I want decent pics not too many close-ups etc. Rather few good rear views (best when he jumped at a man's back/piggyback at 25 min).

Quite good but typical Czech series. Correct title: Správná šestka.

Since ~2 days, the extremely high stats of posts "Info 20" and "Update: The Thanksgiving Visitor" dropped dramatically. Another proof of a robot is, that both posts got a very high peak (10 times) on the same date, Aug 12th. Now both dropped. So the weekly stats will probably be normal soon. Daily stats has 17, 16, 8, 6, 5 and 4 hits a post.

I have fixed the updates from blog 2 and re-uploaded larger pics here, currently from tags with few remaining posts like hickory stripes to have lesser tag categories there. Prehysteria! 2 (pic 2) had rating 6 instead of 3. Previoulsy I've re-added larger pics, also with a lower rating than 3.

Update: You've Got to Be Smart

 

I have now completely seen this movie. Several good scenes but mainly in the 1st half of the movie. I now think, that all bibs are raw denim and I considered an even higher rating than 7. I also found a high-res original, b&w lobby card. 

Pic 1 at 2 minutes showing Fritz and Mike Bantam (only the youngest Fritz is still alive, on left?). Pic 2 is a nice leapfrog scene at 28 minutes. The best scene just before it, is a boy running toward the camera incl close-up.

Pic 3 showing Jeff Bantam at 15 minutes. They are also singing. Good rear views at the beginning and very end but few and briefly, some scenes from a distance. Sitting scenes even fewer and only from a distance. No riding scenes, very few farm work (wheelbarrow, one sitting in). Boys also in pajamas sharing one bed. Life-size b&w cardboard stands of the boys.

Rating ~7-8. Not sure if I would buy it on DVD. Definitely if the image quality would be better. Main entry

Story 146: sanforized and starched raw denim

Recently, I found the term "sanforized overalls" in a book. I think, I heard of it before, but I never really thought about it. So when buying raw denim overalls (or jeans) that are not sanforized they will shrink, so you have to order a larger size. And kids or teens grow, so that has to be considered as well.

I read in several books, that in history, farm boys often got one new pair of overalls on Christmas, orderd by a mail-order catalogue. And at school, they want to remain them like new as long as possible so got them washed late, maybe after 2 or 3 weeks.

If a boy has younger siblings and the bibs shrunk and are not ripped after the year, probably some brothers had to wear them. Not sure how many bibs were sanforized but none before it's invention in ~1930.

Now I read on heddels.com that some starch their denims with a spray of corn starch. I never heard of that before and only read about the smell of denim and starched dresses in a one-room schoolhouse. Nowadays, I think raw denim are rarely worn, and also in movies they are quite rarely shown, mostly faded bibs.

I'm currently rewatching some classics including The Big Show (1923), rating 7, update soon. Andy Samuel acted there as well but not in bibs but in a Charlie Chaplin costume. The image quality of The Fraidy Cat is quite good for it's very old age compared to early Our Gang films, so probably enhanced for a Charley Chase release.

Short film, 12 minutes and few bibs scenes.

I don't know the complete movie, yet. But looks very interesting. Obviously several scenes. I think, I have seen this movie many years ago on TV.

Not sure if some or even all bibs are of raw denim fabric. There's a good lobby card on IMDb but this is colorized. I have to check for pics or streams in better image quality. Barefooted on the movie poster but also unclear how many scenes if so.

Rating ~7-8 for now.

There is an official 2002 DVDr, VHS and download available, not sure about that quality. The download has lower quality than the DVDr. I doubt about a very good image quality due to the year. Not stated, same for shipping costs.

Confirmed raw denim, a bit fewer scenes than 1st assumed, several good scenes but still rating 7-8.

Updates: Rating 3 posts, boy instead of girl, raw denim...

 

I have compared the remaining 86 rating 3 posts from blog 2. As said, I had mainly to focus on the old 2011-2012 posts that were not overwritten by the imports (as tiny pics are better than none). I haven't replaced most of the pics but enlarged some. Most links are still wrong but posts exist. (It's too much work to fix everything, maybe later).

Previoulsy I had another duplicate, posts with no or different rating (mainly updates, lists and stories from The Waltons).

Wind at My Back - s2e1

 

One better pic of the boy in faded bibs showing a bit more of his bibs. Full view/rear view only far from a distance. Also another boy, probably the same, I previously had in s2e4 (I noticed this too late). Brand might be Calvin Klein (same as Sugar Creek Gang). But that brand didn't exist in the 30s.

As said, great scene of Fat in a short bathing costume in this pie throwing job.

I remember rather few good scenes (like in the complete series).
