The Hill (2023)

Biography/Baseball, Dennis Quaid
Year: 2023
Year in film: 1950s-1975
Country: USA
Who in bibs: boys ~10-13, men
Available on DVD: yes
I own: no
Clothing occurrence: medium-
Rating:  6/10
Rating: ******
Comment: Some boys (at least 4) in bibs including Liberty, Key and Washington Dee Cee. Playing Baseball in bibs. Starring Ian Reichert, Mason Gillett, Tyrik Johnson and Jesse Berry as young main character Rickey Hill wearing leg braces (pic 3 on left). Older (teen) Rickey is played by Colin Ford (*1996). Some scenes of the older character are set in 1973-1975. So the scenes of the younger boys are obviously ~10-15 years earlier, so I think late 50s or early 60s. Not sure of the amount of scenes. Probably also men in bibs.

Set in Texas, filmed in Georgia.

I have just seen the trailer and a 10 minutes preview.

By coincidence I found this (and another movie, coming soon) on pinterest on this pin (I have this vintage pic on my Google Photos album)

Needs to be rechecked and maybe even purchased.

Rating ~6-(7) for now. Update: Completely checked (briefly). Also men in bibs. Rating 6 or rather 5. Mainly shown the handsome boy, I think older brother of the main character. Main character also in bibs. Baseball scene with 2 others is brief.

  1. This is a 9/10 film for me. Mason Gillett is quite good in his dungarees, but Jesse Berry is perfect in his, it only doesn't get a full 10 because he is only in it for the first hour of the film. Fun fact, Jesse (27th Oct 2009 - his mothers instagram) is actually older than Mason Gillet (4th March 2010 - his own instagram) in real life, but Mason plays the older brother because he is very tall for his age. The filming took place in November and December 2021, so Jesse was already 12yo and Mason 11yr 8mnths. This is a film that has a 4k release, and it is one I would consider buying in this format.
