I usually don't watch these romantic "teen" soaps. Episodes can be watched again online, but not for free. But maybe newer episodes also containing overalls scenes.

There are DVD releases, but probably not the new ones yet.

I can't say much more yet. Maybe I will find some more scenes later.

Rating 3-4 for now but could be much higher. I bet there are more overalls scene (in the 90s ?)

I haven't seen close-up views, so not sure about the hickory stripes due to the bad image quality. Some scenes look familiar to me, maybe I have even seen this famous movie (many years ago). English title "Trocadero Lemon Blue".

The boy is quite young and even younger looking in most scenes and he's very thin. Also some other scenes of interest like a bathtub and bed scene (both together with a woman and bed with a girl). Romantic scenes and also skateboard scenes. He also starred in "L'hôtel de la plage (1978)" (The Beach Hotel, Holiday Hotel),  another very interesting movie which I probably have seen (including speedo scenes of boys and teen boys and kissing scenes (boy+girl)) maybe even someone in bibs as well?


Rating 4-5 for now, movie maybe higher. DVD release in March 2015!

Update: Checked many parts and so 3 better pics. I "only" noticed one very long scene starting at around 36 minutes up to 44. 2 sitting scenes (table and floor), walking upstairs (hole at the butt). Also sitting on his bed with the bib down and being undressed by his mom (at 44 minutes). More often in tight regular jeans. Soon also on my bedroom blog.

Nice late 70s movie. Handsome boy but quite young. I don't like much hickory stripes. So still rating (was 5-6?) 4-5 only.

Thanks db1. Now I've found Keith “Bubba” Naylor in ep. 9. Very brief scene and hardly to notice (pic 2). Very handsome boy with a bowl cut, but very young. Rating 3-4. I think I would prefer the girl in the same episode (see main entry).

Pic 1 showing "You Can't Do That on Television" Canadian Amyas Godfrey in 1986 ep. 90 “Fairy Tales, Myths and Legends”. Also few scenes (2 ?) in the locker and sitting (from a distance). Rating 6-7 (6 due to few scenes). Unfortunately also quite bad image quality. I waited for more episodes but there weren't no more comments.

He is also very handsome but I prefer him 3 years later in a sailor suit (see my sailor suit blog, info 190, rating 8). He also has an older brother in bibs in this show as well.

I now checked all 13 episodes of this Nickelodeon series but at high speed and so I missed at least one boy (I think Keith with a blond bowlcut but very young, probably pic 1 on right.) What episode is he in bibs? Thanks ep 9 as well. Update.

There are few scenes showing overalls. Ralph Woolfolk (pic 1?), Jimmy Lee Newman, Keith “Bubba” Naylor, and 14 yo Aisling Sistrunk as Melanie (she in pic 2 in ep. 9 "Dee Dee Runs Away", a good scene with her hand on her hip).

Pic 1 is from ep. 12 "Candy Sale". Nice sitting scene in orange shorter bibs. There is also a black girl sitting in the background in turqouise bibs behind him. Pic 3 is from ep. 5 "Hit the Open Man" aka "Basketball Tryouts". Light blue bibs, 1 strap down. There are also some supporting actors like a very young boy in shortalls in ep. 9.

Also good bedroom scenes of the 2 brothers (soon on my other blog).

Although few scenes now rating 5-6.

I have checked the complete movie at high speed some days ago and there are rather few scenes. At the beginning some scenes in a wheat field but bibs aren't fully shown. Also in long johns but mainly from a distance. At the end he wears different clothes I think (and looks different and much more handsome and a bit older without that cap, first I thought that this might be a different act

or.) Also interesting bedroom scenes.

Good setting but few good scenes and I somehow don't like the movie. Bibs are also not perfect though might appear authentic (immigrants in the 1920s).

Rating 4-5.

I usually don't watch Crime series (except for some few classics). And so I found it by coincidence.

I don't like women with short red hair and the other one is better, but are brief scenes only. Full length bibs and raw denim and farm content are of course much more of interest (next to males).

I also have watched and updated Dino Dan. There's also another episode in snow bibs (or snow pants) and also his mom and other kids including a young girl. But I'm still not sure as all their jackets kept closed. (A problem with many winter movies).

-Comment: Some, mainly younger boys at least outside a one-room schoolhouse and also several men in dark bibs. Some very handsome and also good rear view walking up the stairs.

I found this by coincidence. I understand that this is a Public Domain movie (footage). I don't know the complete length and if there are other even better scenes of interest. There is also another cotton-picking scene on a different clip (maybe same reel) with at least one boy, but not shown in the preview, so unknown if in bibs. This and other stock companies also have copyrighted movies, also in color, but I don't know of any other involving overalls.

They sell high-quality transfers from master tapes for a very high price for professional re-use. I wonder who pays $ 385 for one Public Domain clip. A short demo on DVD or FTP is available for a minimum of $ 50. I haven't found any details of this movie not even on their website. At least this low-res and watermarked clip (2) can be found on YouTube and is quite interesting enough. I like these classics showing original historical clothes and not costumes.

I have similar entries, however completetly free available on archive.org like "Untitled 1927 Silverton, Oregon nitrate film" (rating 5) and of course "A Rural Community: Holtville, Alabama" (rating 8).

Rating 5-6 for this.

Update: The Summer of Walter Hacks

The bad thing first: This 2009 movie is still not available on DVD and there is or was no plan for a release. People should watch it "on the big screens". So there's no chance for someone outside the US for watching this movie. Very sad. I can only hope that they change their minds at some time (when everybody has seen it in this region). Probably video sharing sites and DVD copies are one the main reasons to not publish such Independant movies.

I always considered rechecking this movie that I found by coincidence on IMDb 4 years ago, but I couldn't find it myself on my blog. I was pretty sure, that this must be set in the 1930s and I also couldn't find it by trying some keywords. During preparation for my 1950s list I finally found it. Set in 1952 Vermont. Starring 11 and later 12 yo Henry Woodard (maybe son or grandson of the co-writer) as main character Henry and 12 yo Francesca Blanchard as Margaret. Both kids appear a bit older on most scenes. I think there's also an older brother but unknown if in bibs as well or other actors.

Very good scenes also cycling scenes and farm scenes, obviously milking (pic 2). Both pics are from the official extended trailer. Well worth watching just that.

Previously rated 7, maybe even higher. I like it although it's in b&w and would buy it on DVD. I also found another movie not on DVD (color, entry coming soon).

Quite good plot and setting. Based on a true story. 1 Golden Globe. In total rather few (good) scenes of the boys and the boys wearing bibs are very young (maybe aroung 7 yo). Most scenes are either headshots or from a distance.

Other scenes are also of interest like a boy in a tin tub and also good bedroom scenes (boy, girls + orphanage) soon on my bedroom blog rating 5.

Story 85: Shiny silver overalls + coveralls

Usually I don't post movies and series with coveralls (except for a short list) so I made this story entry. Today "Battlestar Galactica (1978)", double episode 17 "Greetings from Earth" (1979)  had been aired showing grown-ups and kids in silver coveralls (pictured).

There are 2 girls (pic 1 on left) and 2 boys (one very young blond boy is unpictured), I previously only noticed Noah Hathaway as child, but I don't used to watch this series nowadays. Several good scenes also close-up and rear view. There is even ranch content with horses (or cows?).

Coveralls and overalls are similar (sometimes bibs are called coveralls) but coveralls are often worn over other clothes including pants. And often not of jeans fabric. I don't have the time to add all coveralls movies (someone else can do this, I have 4 blogs already).

Another great family series with a family (boy+ girl) in silver coveralls is "Lost in Space (1965)" , partly in b&w but also in color and also other costumes, starring Bill Mumy ("Rascal", rating 6+).

Real silver overalls I only remember 2 chicks in "Beverly Hills Bodysnatchers" (not bad, but brief scene, rating 2) . Also silver coveralls, teen boy and woman in The Tomorrow People (1973), rating 5.

She wears light grey tights underneath. Shortalls are short and rather tight. They appear darker in close-up scenes.

Had been aired yesterday as announced.

Sorry, no women and no men in bibs. Linda Kozlowski wearing a medium blue shirt or similar and later shorts or a skirt with thin brown suspenders. Probably I have seen a preview of the prequel which had been aired after part 2. There she wore a black swimsuit with wider straps that might be looking like overalls straps from a distance. Also no men (it was just a shirt). There are lots of supporting actors in part 1 (in a city) so maybe some in bibs there.

I don't like very young kids or toddlers and usually don't post such movies (except if also older people in bibs) but I like the American type clothing combination.

The movie itself is not that bad but there are definitely better ones.

I missed the beginning 20 minutes. First there are the few scenes with the orange bibs. But she also wore a jacket.

In the 2nd half there are some more scenes with the blue bibs. Also sitting on bed and some few rear scenes.

She also starred in a similar Christmas comedy film called "O Palmenbaum" in 2000 (also showing beach scenes), but probably not in bibs? (Both movies are available on one single DVD).

Funny and strange family movies. But she's quite young. An no brothers.

Books 41: Several. Expenditures overalls + underwear

I'm always interested in historical fiction and non-fiction books and still wondered if the myth that (farm) boys (and girls) don't wear underwear (in summer) is true and a rule or just some exceptions. I had that subject before, also mentioning in some movies and also part of my recent book and story entries like the overalls smell in one-room schoolhouses. I think that all changed after the war and in the 1950s as farm work also changed like everything.

First I found the following book by coincidence during research for something else.

"Family Expenditures for Clothing: Five Regions" by Day Monroe (1941) published by the Departement of Agriculture.

This is a study with lots of data and tables for expenditures depending on the income. Mainly rural regions of the 1930s. Richer kids and city kids might differ.

 

First a little boy (I think at 7 yo) is proud of getting his first (real, non-toddler) overalls to match his working dad. On page 79 there are also girl described getting overalls but just little girls. Girls usually got underwear, petticoats and the like but they usually don't wore overalls.

Most mothers bought 2 pair of bibs for boys, one is for school only. But I guess that many wore the same pair for school and chores. Underwear expenditures were around $ 1.60 - 2.40 a year including 2 union suits (for winter), shirts and nightwear.  (Nightwear is a another question and also depending on temperatures). Bibs, pants and suits were around $8-9.

Page 46: Overalls were replaced every 5 months instead of twice a year.

Page 56: Most little boys didn't wear underwear in summer and were barefooted.

 

"Tales of a One-Room Country School" by David L. Perkins

Overalls after being outlived at school were worn for chores. His mother bought 3 pair in August for $ 0,49 each. He also talked about today's prices.

 

"Living By Faith" by Judith Combs Puckett.

A 10 or 11 yo boy had wet overalls after fishing and they fell down in front of girls. He didn't wear underwear.

 

"Ben Rod Jordan of Putnam Country" by Keith Honaker.

I already mentioned that in Info 51. The parents ordered overalls and shoes by catalogue. They wore them if they fit or not. Again 2 pair of underwear (for winter) on non since spring. There's also a skinny dipping scene.

A mother made the clothes for her boy by herself (like from feed sacks) and he didn't had bought underwear until he was grown.

Bibs are also completely shown (without jacket) but she also wears a jacket and I think most scenes are headshots. I have just seen the end.

ABBA - 40 Jahre Waterloo

-Comment: After exactly 3 hours (including commercials) there was a very brief scene of a clip with Abba performing in the US. It looks like if there's a girl dancing in blue jeans bibs on stage (or just behind the stage) There were many people surrounding the small stage. Anni-Frid also in dark blue bibs or similar blue dress or similar in that show. Previously also Agnetha in bibs and there are lots of pics of her and Björn in tight bibs and also their kids or relatives or fans in bibs as well.

This 4 hour documentary had been aired on New Year's Day after Doc Hollywood. I like the music and the first half I have mainly listened to it. So I might have missed other scenes.

I tried my best to search for this movie and also other clips and pics of US show, but I couldn't find that scene.

I understood that this was from a 1979 TV show. At least they talked about that directly after this scene. Before that they talked about wanting to get (more) famous in the US. That promotion started in 1978. There was an interview shown, looks like a radio interview. The host sounds British and I think I've heard the name John Shaw. They got very famous in the US because of that show/interview with the song ("Take A Chance On Me" ?) In 1975 Abba were in the Dinah Shore show, Shore sounds similar like Shaw, but that looks different and that doesn't fit to the plot. Although it's possible that they showed an older clip not matching the exact storyline. Or I missunderstood it.

I checked many sites and pics like abbaontv but I still can't find it. So I have to recheck it the next rebroadcasting. Maybe it was just Björn (he also wore dark blue bibs).

At least ABBA members in bibs and coveralls. Benny at least in coveralls.

-Comment: At least Yolande Andrae ("Tiere bis unters Dach") in blue shortalls as younger sister of a 16 yo blond pigtailed girl (Katharina Unger). I don't know of any others in bibs or shortalls, but it's possible ( I don't have much hope, maybe some supporting actors?). There is also a young boy acting (13 yo Niklas Post) but probably not in bibs.

Saturdays 19.25 on German ZDF. Set in Hamburg.

I only have seen a short preview and can't say much more yet. 12 episodes. Rebroadcastings on Sundays.

Pics coming from the trailer. I haven't found any better pics or clips in shortalls.

I will try to watch this series if I don't forget.

-Comment: A boy fighting on the floor in blue bibs, also a boy in bibs and a girl probably in bibs as well sitting in the background in that scene at 55 minutes (also close-up view, long-haired girl in the middle, it's maybe a dress but more likely bibs), a young pigtailed girl in hickory striped shortalls at 42 minutes (also rear view), several (older) men and women marching at a parade in yellow bibs at 1h02 also a bit later several (farmer) men in blue jeans bibs and one thin old woman (unpictured) and on pic 4 a boy sitting (bibs or pants with suspenders at 52 minutes (but nothing much to see here). Unpictured an old farm man near the beginning and a young boy after the festival (around 1h10) standing and walking in dark blue bibs in the background. All scenes are very short.

I now have also checked the complete movie including the beginning (but at high speed, so it's possible that I missed something).

As announced the scenes in the rural town looks like the 1950s (cars, props, fashion, dresses, haircut, amusement park attractions) but the movie is set in the presence (around 1990). Maybe a vintage party.

The best scene is of course at 55 minutes. But brief scenes only, so rating 4-5.

Typical movie of it's time (romance, comedy film, family film). Also starring Julie Warner, Bridget Fonda and George Hamilton.

At least several men and women in blue and yellow bibs. I think at least 2 scenes of a boy in blue bibs at least one a supporting actor, but I missed most of it (still running). German vox.

Rural setting. Clothing cars and props look like the 1950s but is the around 1990. 1991 movie starring Michael J. Fox.
